Curriculum

BIBS' unique international bilingual curriculum is jointly developed by a group of outstanding Chinese and international education professionals. After more than 20 years of exploration, we ensure an organic fusion of the IB framework and the core courses from the Chinese National Education Program. We pick the essence of Chinese and Western cultures and fuse these elements together, and offer a true international bilingual curriculum that best suits the Chinese students' development needs.

Core sections from the Chinese National Education Program: Chinese heart, Chinese cultural roots.

IB Curriculum: World's highest level international curriculum.

Extracurricular Activities

In developing the ‘whole child’ we pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of extracurricular learning experiences and after school activities (ASA). As a learning school we aim to grow with our students by being flexible to their growing interests. We do this by having low minimum student number requirements for classes to open and by aligning ourselves with experienced professional providers. All of our ASA can fit into the elements Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS).

Creativity – arts, and other experiences that involve creative thinking.

Activity – physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing academic work elsewhere in the DP.

Service – an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved are respected.

Student Leadership as Service

Student initiated ‘Action’ at BIBS is an essential element of learning. Here students learn knowledge, attitudes and skills however we believe these things alone are not enough. For real understanding to occur, students must take action.

What do we want to do with what we are learning? How can we help? These are the questions our students ask us every day at BIBS. Below are a few ways students have taken action in the school and community over the past two years:

We believe in developing well-rounded young leaders. We foster a love of learning in the Arts and Physical Education as much as in the core subject areas of Languages, Math, Social Studies and Science. All our ASA run from 4pm Monday to Friday. This year we have:

Field Trips

Field trips and camps are a part of the International Baccalaureate programme, as such we encourage classes to take part in a range of field trips and activities outside of the classroom each year.

On 17th of April 2019 the BIBS Kunming Grade Five Sharks departed the Kunming Changshui International Airport for Chiang Mai, Thailand for a six-day class field trip. While in Thailand, the students collected information about global warming in Thailand. When they returned to Kunming, they were able to compare and contrast their research about how people from different countries contribute to and combat global warming.

In May 2019, Grade 4 and Grade 7 students in BIBS Kunming had a five-day adventurous experience in Liming town, Lijiang. This camp provided numerous opportunities for our students to develop a variety of skills, it was most rewarding to see our students reach their personal goals while giving their personal best.
